God had given him many blessings because he was righteous. 正しく生きていたので、神もたくさんの祝福を下さった。
Satan also knew Job was righteous. サタンもヨブが正しい人だということを知っていた。
Satan thought that Job was righteous because God had given him so many blessings. サタンはヨブが神からたくさん祝福を受けていたので正しいことをすると思った。
Satan said Job would not be righteous if his blessings were taken away. サタンは、ヨブがこのような祝福を取り去られたら正しいことをしなくなるだろうと言った。
God said Satan could take away everything Job had, but God wouldn't allow Satan to hurt Job. 神はサタンにヨブの持っている物から何でも取り去ってもいいが、ヨブを傷つけることだけはさせないとおっしゃった。
Then Satan would see that Job would still be righteous. サタンにそれでもヨブが正しいことを続けるのがわかるだろうとおっしゃった。
One day, four servants came to Job. ある日、4人の召使いがヨブのもとにやって来た。
They said all of Job’s oxen and servants had been killed, a fire had burned all his sheep, his camels had been stolen, and a strong wind blew down Job’s son’s house, killing all of his children. 召使いは、ヨブの牛や召使いが全部死んでしまい、羊も火で焼かれ、らくだも盗まれ、息子の家も強風で飛ばされて子供が全部亡くなったしまったと伝えた。
Job had nothing left. ヨブには何も残っていなかった。
Job was very sad, but he was not angry with God. ヨブは悲しんだが神に対して怒りを持たなかった。
He fell to the ground and worshiped God. 地に倒れ神を拝んだ。
He said he had nothing when he was born. 生まれて来た時には何も無かったのだと言った。
God gave him everything. 神がすべてを下さった。
Now God had taken it away. そして神がすべてを取り去った。
But Job still loved God. traしかし、ヨブはまだ神を愛していた。ns18a
God talked to Satan again. 神はサタンにまた話された。
He said everything had been taken from Job, and Job was still righteous. ヨブはすべてを取り去られたが、それでも正しいと言われた。
But Satan said Job would not be righteous if he were very sick. サタンはヨブが病気になれば、決して正しくなくなるだろうと言った。
So God allowed Satan to make Job sick, but not kill him. 神はサタンがヨブを病気にさせるのをお許しになったが、殺させはなさらなかった
Job became very sick. ヨブは重病にかかった。
His body was covered with sores and he wished he had never been born. 体中にできものができ、生まれて来なければ良かったと思うようになった。
Job’s wife asked if he still believed God was good. ヨブの奥さんがまだ神を良い御方と信じるかと尋ねた。
Job said he did. ヨブは信じると答えた。
God gives people good things, he said, but sometimes he lets bad things happen to good people. 神は人に良い者を与えるが、良い人に悪いことが起きるのを許されると言った。
Three of Job’s friends were sorry for him and came to see him. ヨブの友達3人が可哀想に思い訪ねて来た。
They told Job God punishes wicked people, not good people. 3人は、神は悪者に罰を与えるが善人にはそうしないとヨブに言った。
The friends said Job must have been wicked because bad things wouldn't happen to him if he were righteous. 友達はヨブが正しかったらこのような悪いことが起こらない、きっとヨブが悪人なのだと言った。
Job told his friends he had not been wicked. ヨブは悪いことはしていないと友達に言った。
He didn't know why so many bad things had happened to him, but he still believed in God. どうしてそのような悪いことが起きたか知らないが、それでも神を信じていた。
Even if he died, he would always love God. 死んでもヨブは神を愛していた。
If he died he would be resurrected and have his body again. tran死ねば、復活しもう一度自分の体をいただくのだ。s34a
Again, Job’s friends told him he had been wicked. もう一度ヨブの友達はヨブが悪いと言った。
They said he might have taken things away from poor people, or not helped people when they needed help. ヨブが貧しい人から物をとったりしたのか、必要な時に助けてあげなかったのだと言った。
They said God knows when people are wicked. 神は人が悪かったらご存知だと言った。
No one can hide his sins from God. 神から罪を隠すことができない。
They told Job to repent and then God would bless him. 悔い改めたら神が祝福なさると言った。
Job told his friends he was righteous and God knew he was righteous. ヨブは自分が正しいのを神はご存知だと友達に言った。
Job said some wicked people do not have troubles while some righteous people have many troubles. ヨブは困難のない悪者もいるし、たくさん困難のある善人もいると述べた。
Job said he did not know why God had let bad things happen to him. ヨブは、神がどうして自分にこのような悪いことが起こるのを許されたかわからないと言った。
Then Job heard the voice of God. すると、ヨブは神の声を耳にした。
God asked Job many questions. 神はヨブにたくさんの質問をなさった。
Where was Job when God made the world? 神が世を創造されたとき、ヨブはどこにいたか。
What did Job know about the clouds, the snow, and the rain? ヨブが雲や雪や雨についてどんなことを知っているか。
What did Job know about the animals and the plants on the earth? ヨブが世の動物や植物について何を知っているか。
Job said he did not understand these things. ヨブはこのようなことについてあまりわからないと答えた。
God told Job men cannot always understand why God does things, but they must trust God no matter what happens to them. 神は人間には神のなさることがどうしてかわからないことがあるだろうが、どんなことが起こっても、神を信頼しなくてはいけないとヨブに語られた。
Then, Job saw God. するとヨブは神にまみえた。
