Activities:
Color the Coconut Tree-

Matching-
Match the Uppercase Letters to the Lowercase Letters (Matching Worksheet)
Have them finish writing out the alphabet (Worksheet)
For a big class: Have the students each make large, colorful letters to hang as necklaces. Then, have students act out the story. They can pretend to climb the tree. When the tree falls, have them gently fall down onto the floor.
Games:
Chicka Chicka Boom Boom Letter Hunt-
Hide the alphabet letters in sequence along a route you intend to follow. You could use magnetic letters, foam letters, paper letters, etc. The kids will search for them as you go…for example, hang up the a, b, and c somewhere between your room and the bathroom, and as you walk along that route, have 3 students collect them as you pass.
Some kind of palm tree should be in your classroom to place the letters on when you get back. (You can draw it on the board).
By the time you get back to the room, you should have the whole alphabet. Some kids may have to hold more than one letter, if you’re lucky enough to have a small class! Once you get them all back to the classroom , have the students try and put them on the coconut tree in the right order.
Alphabet Bingo-
Call out letters and have the students cross off the letter on their board. Whoever gets five in a row first, wins! Use this Bingo Board.
Alphabet Writing Relay-
Divide and line up the students into two teams. Divide the board into two halves and have one student from each team run to the board, write ‘A’, then run to the back of the line. The next student writes ‘B’, etc. The first team to finish wins.
Alphabet Shout Out-
Randomly choose an alphabet flashcard and award a point to the first student who shouts out a word beginning with that letter.
Alphabet Soup-
Give each student a piece of paper with a letter on it and have them skip around the room to the ‘ABC Song’. Stop the music at random and have the students rush to line up in order, e.g. A-K.
