Booklet-<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Copy and print \u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/thriveafterthree.files.wordpress.com\/2013\/04\/pigeon-book.pdf\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">this booklet<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> double-sided. Fold and staple. Have the children color the book and fill in their own version of the story. Take turns having the children read their stories aloud.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Write on the Board &#8211;<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Brainstorm ideas WHY the pigeon shouldn\u2019t drive the bus (\u201cHe is too small\u201d, \u201cHe doesn\u2019t know how to drive\u201d) and write it on the board.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Elapsed Time-<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Using a clock as a visual, help the students count and say times. (\u201cOh no, someone let the pigeon drive the bus! If he left at 12:00 and it took an hour to get to the library, what time did he arrive?\u201d) Draw pictures on the board to help the students understand.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Pictures and Motion-<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Draw different ways of transportation on the board, or bring in different pictures (ex: car, train, plane, bike, etc). Show each picture and have the students makes motions and sounds that accompany the picture. For example, if it is a car, make \u201cvrooooom\u201d sounds and have them walk around the room pretending to be driving a car.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Don\u2019t Let the Pigeon Drive!<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Draw different ways of transportation on the board, or bring in different pictures (ex: car, train, plane, bike, etc). Print out <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.openlettersmonthly.com\/stevereads\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/please.jpg\" rel=\"wp-prettyPhoto[2288]\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">this picture<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of the Pigeon and hold it up next to one of the pictures (for example, the plane). Say something like, \u201cI\u2019m the plane driver. I\u2019ve got to go for a while. Can you watch the (pause and try to have the students say \u201cplane\u201d) until I get back? And remember, (get the students to say this with you) don\u2019t let the pigeon drive the plane!\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Watch this <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=0-wM311Z0rc\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Video<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">!<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Games:<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><b>Ball Game-<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Students throw a ball quickly to each other by saying \u201c<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Name<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, don\u2019t let the pigeon\u2026!\u201d and passing it. The student who catches it needs to complete the sentence by saying an activity that the pigeon shouldn\u2019t do (\u201ceat your food\u201d, \u201cwear my clothes\u201d).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Paper Airplanes-<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Teach everyone how to make a paper airplane, then have a contest to see which airplane will fly the farthest.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Freeze-<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Have the students stand in the middle of the room. Call out a mode of transportation, such as car, and each student has to pretend to be that vehicle and \u201cdrive\u201d around the classroom. Explain that when you say, \u201cstop\u201d they have to freeze and become motionless. At random intervals yell out \u201cstop\u201d and make the children who can\u2019t freeze in time sit down. The last one standing wins.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Red Light, Green Light-<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At the start, have all the children form a line about 15 feet away from the student who is \u201cit.\u201d (The student who is \u201cIt\u201d is pretending to be a stop light). The \u201cstoplight\u201d faces away from the line of kids and says &#8220;green light&#8221;. At this point the kids are allowed to move towards the \u201cstoplight.\u201dAt any point, the \u201cstoplight\u201d may say &#8220;red light!&#8221; and turn around. If any of the kids are caught moving after this has occurred, they are out. Play resumes when the \u201cstoplight\u201d turns back around and says &#8220;green light&#8221;. The \u201cstoplight\u201d wins if all the kids are out before anyone is able to touch him\/her.
