Study Abroad in Japan

  • What should I bring with me to Japan?
    • After you sign up for the study abroad program we will send you a packing list a few weeks before departure
  • What are the dates and prices for the study abroad program?
    • All that information is available here.
  • How are payments made for the Study Abroad program?
    • Payments can be made 3 ways: check payable to IERS (International Education Research Society), direct deposit to IERS’s account at Zions First National Bank, or the donate button at the top of this page. This button allows for payment by credit cards, debit cards, and PayPal Accounts (but you don’t need an account to use it). Further details for payment methods will be sent to you after signing up for the program.
  • When are payments due?
    • The payment will be due in full by three Wednesdays before the starting date (2015’s program starts June 26, and June 10 is three Wednesdays before then)
  • What costs are covered by our payments to Mikuni?
  • I graduated last year and have not entered college; can I still go?
    • No, I am sorry. We are only accepting people with 2 years of Japanese study who have just graduated from high school the same year as the program or who are still current high school students.
  • Do you many any exceptions to those guidelines?
    • Yes. If you were raised speaking Japanese but live in the US, have studied Japanese on your own, or are home schooled, please contact Cameron at cameron@mikuniinternational.org and ask about exceptions.
  • I’m a teacher of Japanese and would like to go. Is that possible?
    • Yes, we have discounted rates if you are also willing to teach courses. Please contact Cameron at cameron@mikuniinternational.org and ask about teaching.
  • What is the housing situation?
    • Boys and girls will live in separate housing, but Japanese and American students will be in the same houses together. Check out our housing page for more information.
