Activities:

Five Senses Booklet-

Print out this booklet and have the students fill it out.

Label the Parts of the Body-

Print out this worksheet or this one out and then have each student label the different parts of the body.

Five Sense Circle Chart-

Print out this worksheet. As you read the book, have the students draw or write in words that relate to each of the five senses (ex: In the book, one line says, “Something went BUMP!” The word “bump” can be written under the ear category). Have the students share with the class. Make a big list of all the examples of the five senses from the book on the board.

Sensory Cups-

Place five cups on a table in front of the class. Put something inside each cup that corresponds with one of the five senses. For example, you could do the following:

  • Touch: Puffy Balls
  • Hear: Bell
  • Smell: Fresh Basil
  • Sight: Glass Prism
  • Taste: Strawberry & Grape

Have each student come up and interact with each cup. Have them touch the puffy balls, smell the basil, and so on.

Popcorn Fun-

Have the students fill this worksheet out, and then eat popcorn together!

Game:

What’s in the Cat’s Hat?

Put an object inside of a hat. Have the students come up one by one and put their hands inside the hat, with their eyes closed. Have them try and guess what the object is,

Thing 1 and Thing 2 Tag-

Print out these logos, and tape them onto two students. Have them be “it” and then chase the other students around the room.

Cat, Cat, Hat –

A group of players sit in a circle, facing inward, while another player, who is “it”, walks around tapping or pointing to each player in turn, calling each a “cat ” until finally calling one a “hat”  The “hat” then rises and tries to tag “it”, while “it” tries to return to and sit where the “hat” had been sitting. If “it” succeeds, the “hat” becomes “it” and the process begins again. If the “hat” tags “it”, the “hat” may return to sit in the previous spot and “it” resumes the process.

Roll the Five Senses Dice-

Cut out dice pattern (all in one connecting piece.) Glue Flaps under. Children “roll” the

dice. Whatever sense the picture represents, children name something that is done with it. Example: “Nose – can smell popcorn.”
