Lesson 3: Princess and the Frog

Once upon a time, there lived a beautiful princess who had a delicate, golden ball. One day, while playing in the garden, the ball fell into a pond. The princess was very sad and did not know what to do. She started to cry. Then, a frog jumped out of the pond and asked, “Why are you crying, princess?” She pointed at the pond and told him about her golden ball.
The ugly frog said, “I can get your ball, but what will you give me?”
“I will give you anything you want!” promised the princess. The frog immediately jumped into the water and got her ball. The princess was very happy. The frog then said, “Remember that you promised me anything. I want to be your friend, eat from your plate, and sleep in your palace!”
The princess hated the idea, but she agreed. “Come to the palace tomorrow, and I will give you these things.”
The next morning, the frog was waiting for her. He said, “I have come to live in your palace.” The princess did not like the idea, but she said, “A promise is a promise. You can live here.”
Every day, she let the frog eat from her plate during dinner and prepared a soft bed for him at night. She talked to the frog, and they became good friends. She stopped hating him because he was ugly. The princess soon forgot about her promise, and was nice to the frog only because she loved him.
One day, the frog turned into a handsome prince! He told the princess that he had been under the spell of an evil witch. Her kindness and friendship had broken the spell. The two were soon married and lived happily ever after.
